PayPal Credit card

You can request a PayPal Credit card from your PayPal Credit account view on PayPal.com and in the PayPal app, subject to eligibility.

Once requested, you will receive a virtual card that you can begin using immediately.

After you’ve obtained your virtual card, you can go back into the app and request a physical, plastic version of that card to be shipped to you. Please check the address that we have on file for you to ensure that card is delivered to your current address.

Shipping typically takes 7-10 working days. You will need to have a virtual card before requesting a physical card. However, you can have a virtual card and not a physical card if you wish. There is no cost for a virtual card or for a physical card.

How to activate your credit card:

• Virtual cards are activated immediately after they are requested and issued.
• You must activate your physical card once you receive it before you can use it. You can do this by going to PayPal.com and logging into your account or opening your PayPal app and going to your PayPal Credit account. It will require you to enter the CVV number, the three-digit number on the back of your card.

You can use your virtual card online and if you have requested a physical card, this can be used instore or online. Both virtual and physical cards are able to be used where Mastercard is accepted, even where PayPal isn’t accepted.

Your credit card will have the contactless feature and can be used for 0% interest for 4 months on purchases of £99 or more online and offline.

You will not be able to make instalment purchases using your credit card. You will also not be able to withdraw cash from an ATM with your credit card.

There will be no change to your interest rate, existing credit line, repayments or billing cycle.

If you only have a virtual card, the PIN can be changed at any time on PayPal.com or in the PayPal app.

If you have a physical, plastic card, the PIN can only be changed at an ATM.

Yes. Upon activating your physical card, the CVV number on your virtual card will automatically change to match the CVV on your physical card. The expiration date on your virtual card is also automatically updated. If you had set up recurring payments with your virtual card, you will need to update your card details with those merchants.

If your credit card is lost or stolen, you can report this in your PayPal Credit app, web, by informing us via the ‘message us’ option or by calling our 24/7 support team on 0800 368 7155. Once reported as lost or stolen you will be issued a new virtual card immediately and you will be able to request a physical copy of that card at any time beyond that.

Once reported, here's what we recommend you do next:

• Remove your old card from mobile wallets.
• Any automatic payments funded by your PayPal Credit account will continue as usual. But you'll need to update any automatic payments linked to your old card.
• You can still make online purchases using your PayPal Credit account when checking out online with PayPal.

You can temporarily lock (and unlock) your card both on PayPal.com and in the app so that you can temporarily block any transactions on the account to prevent fraud.

Once we have locked your card, we will send you a confirmation email. Please note that only your card is locked, you can still make online purchases using your PayPal Credit account when checking out online with PayPal, and any automatic payments set up through this account will continue as usual.

There are a number of reasons why you may not be eligible to request a credit card right now. To request a card, you will need to meet the following eligibility criteria:

• You must be a UK resident with a PayPal Credit Account
• Your PayPal Credit Account will need to be in good standing
• Your PayPal Account will also need to be in good standing (does not have a negative balance and is not restricted or locked).

No, if you cancel either your virtual or physical card, you will still have access to your PayPal Credit account. You can continue to use your account and checkout via your online wallet.

Yes, you will be able to use your credit card for cross currency transactions. A cross-currency fee of 2.5% of the converted transaction amount will be applied to the transaction total. The exchange rate and fee will be visible to you and displayed in the transaction detail when viewed in your PayPal account activity feed. See our calculator here.

In-store purchases are ineligible for PayPal Buyer Protection.

However, customers transacting with a credit card do have the following rights:

• Rights under Section 75 Consumer Credit Act 1974
• Chargeback rights under the Mastercard network rules
• PayPal Buyer Protection1 on eligible purchases made with the card online.

You can cancel those payments by contacting us on 0800 368 7155 before the end of the business day before the next payment is due to be made. You should also contact the merchant to tell them you have cancelled the payment.
